We make it our mission to advocate for you every step of the way. From the moment you walk in, we’ll help verify your benefits and explain your coverage in plain English, so there are no surprises. You focus on feeling better; we’ll handle the paperwork.
In the state of Iowa, you have the freedom to start your recovery journey whenever you're ready. Because Iowa is a Direct Access state, you have the option to see a physical therapist immediately, without waiting for a doctor’s referral. Most insurance providers recognize this and don't require a referral to get started.
We know insurance can feel like a puzzle, but you don’t have to solve it alone. Our family is here to help you understand your benefits—just give us a call and speak with our friendly office manager. We’re happy to provide a complimentary insurance benefits check so you can move forward with confidence.
While a referral is rarely needed, we truly value a team approach to your health. With your permission, we’ll communicate closely with your doctor to ensure everyone is on the same page, giving you the coordinated care you need to quickly feel better, move better, and live better.
WHEN TO ARRIVE: Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to complete paperwork. If you do not want to arrive early, you can find paperwork here to fill out before hand. We don't like the paperwork either, but it does allow us to get to know you so we can provide the best care to you.
WHAT TO BRING: Please bring your photo ID, insurance card, medic If you have recent X-rays, MRI reports, or surgical notes, those are incredibly helpful too! This helps us verify insurance benefits.
WHAT TO WEAR: Think comfort! Loose fitting clothing and appropriate footwear tend to work best. If we are treating your knee or hip, shorts are ideal; for shoulder or neck issues, a tank top or loose T-shirt works best.
MINORS: If you are under the age of 18 you need to be accompanied by your guardian for your first visit.
HOW LONG: Your first appointment will last around an hour. During this time we will, listen to your story, outline your goals, go through some motions to access your movement and limitations in order to guide us to make a tailored roadmap to your recovery back to living the life you love!
Our appointments run between 40 - 60 minutes. Your appointment length it tailored around your individual needs insuring you are given the time you deserve to truly focus on your recovery. It allows your therapist to listen closely, assess movement carefully, and tailor each session to your specific goals and needs.
With this dedicated time, you can work through exercises correctly, ask questions, and understand how your body is progressing. It also creates space for hands-on treatment, education, and adjustments as you improve. Most importantly, a longer appointment builds trust and consistency, helping you feel supported, confident, and motivated as you move toward feeling better, moving better, and living better.
It’s completely natural to feel a little nervous about this, but we want to put your mind at ease: Physical therapy should not be painful. In our clinic, we focus on 'good discomfort' versus 'bad pain.' Because we are helping your body wake up muscles that might be sleepy or stretching tissues that have become tight, you might feel a deep stretch or a mild muscle ache—similar to the way you feel after a good workout or a long day of gardening. We call this 'productive discomfort,' and it’s a sign that your body is changing and getting stronger.
However, sharp, stabbing, or 'scary' pain is never the goal. Our family-centered approach means we listen to you every step of the way. You are always in the driver’s seat; if something doesn’t feel right, we stop, adjust, and find a more comfortable way to reach your goal. Our mission is to help you feel better, not to add to your stress. By working together, we ensure your path to recovery is safe, supportive, and focused on getting you back to the life you love.
Yes, our private spaces allow you to speak freely with your therapist and focus entirely on your healing without distraction. It’s all part of our 'family helping family' approach—creating a safe, quiet, and dignified environment where you can feel at ease while we help you move better and get back to the life you love."
Not at all! Just as every family has its own unique story, every injury and every recovery is different. While some 'big-box' clinics might use a one-size-fits-all approach—where everyone with back pain gets the same sheet of exercises—we believe that you deserve better.
At our clinic, we steer clear of the 'assembly line' model. To us, personalized care means that your treatment is built entirely around your body’s specific mechanics, your lifestyle in Pella, and your personal goals. What works for a Central College athlete might not be the right fit for a Vermeer employee or a grandparent who wants to garden pain-free.
Because our family is helping your family, we combine hands-on manual therapy with advanced technology and one-on-one attention. This individualized approach doesn't just help you feel better faster; it ensures you move better for the long haul, preventing the root cause of your pain from returning
